Position Details

 

Status: Full-Time

Shift: Evenings (2nd Shift)

 

The Laboratory department operates on day, evening, night and weekend shifts. Applicants should expect to occasionally pick up shifts outside of night shift hours. Pinckneyville Community Hospital is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

 

Requirements:
EDUCATION:  Associates in Applied Science - Medical Laboratory Technology. A Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, or other natural science with a NAACLS accredited post-baccalaureate program accepted.

 

LICENSURE:  Successful completion of MLT program or a post-baccalaureate program

 

CERTIFICATION:  ASCP, AMT, or CLS certification required (will allow 1 year from hire date to obtain required certification)

 

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:  1-2 years of prior experience preferred

 

Position Purpose:  Perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, including (but not limited to) the areas of Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Serology, and Phlebotomy.

Responsibilities: 

  • Completes specimen collection and preparation processes pertaining to the collection of blood, urine, tissue, and other bodily fluid samples from patients.
  • Labels, stores, and transports specimens according to safety and quality protocols.
  • Prepares samples for analysis using techniques appropriate to the sample type, such as centrifugation and Wright-Giemsa stains.
  • Perform routine and specialized diagnostic / screening tests in microbiology, immunohematology, immunology, clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulations, rapid tests, urinalysis, and other specialties as they become available.
  • Operates and maintains all laboratory instruments, equipment, and automated analyzers as directed by policy.
  • Performs calibration, quality control, validation / verification, and parallel reagent studies to ensure accuracy and precision in test results.
  • Records manual test results and transcribes them accurately into the LIS.
  • Communicates critical results and specimen requirements to healthcare providers or their clinical team in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes SOPs to complete work processes while practicing compliance with regulatory guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA.
  • Work closely with pathologists, technologists, nurses, and other healthcare staff.
  • Trains and mentors new technicians / interns as needed.
  • Attend departmental meetings and continuing education sessions.
  • Completes other duties as assigned including off-bench tasks. 

 

 

Wage Rate Range: 

Lab Tech (MLT):  $23.75/HR - $38.59/HR, based on experience and specific position.

Lab Tech (MT):  $27.75/HR - $45.09/HR, based on experience and specific position.
