General Surgeon Joins Pinckneyville Community Hospital

September 14, 2023

Pinckneyville Community Hospital is excited to announce that Dr. Shakeel Sandozi, Board Certified General Surgeon, has joined the hospital staff.

Dr. Sandozi is Board Certified by American Board of Surgery.  He graduated from Osmania Medical College and completed his residency and surgical residency at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine in Chicago, IL.  During his residency, he also served as the chief resident. After the completion of his residency, Dr. Sandozi has practiced as a General Surgeon in Illinois and Indiana for the past 27 years.

Board certification by the American Board of Surgery  (ABS) is a voluntary process that demonstrates a surgeon's commitment to professionalism, lifelong learning, and quality patient care. Surgeons certified by the ABS have completed at least five years of residency training following medical school, met all ABS training requirements, and successfully completed a rigorous ABS examination process.

General surgery is on the "cutting edge" as it continues to reinvent itself to the benefit of the surgical patient. Due to today's high-tech instrumentation and advanced technology, procedures such as major abdominal surgery are now replaced with minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques that often reduce pain, accelerate recuperation, and reduce cost without sacrificing good outcomes.  A general surgeon has specialized knowledge and experience related to the diagnosis, preoperative, operative, and postoperative management.

Dr. Sandozi is very experienced in all general surgery cases including laparoscopic surgeries, appendectomies, gall bladders, colonoscopies, endoscopies, colectomy, hemorrhoids, hernia repair, intestinal obstructions, small bowel resection, as well as skin surgeries and more.

Entering the field of medicine was a natural path for Dr. Sandozi. “I was exposed to the medical field since my childhood in India”, he said. “My father was a physician and professor of pathology. I have always enjoyed surgery because I love seeing the results of my work in a short time frame.”

“Dr. Sandozi will be a wonderful addition to our Surgery/Family Medical Center team and a great benefit to our community.  We truly are fortunate to have the surgical services of Dr. Sandozi and are happy to have him join our hospital community,” said Dauby.
