Pinckneyville Community Hospital Supports Nursing Advancement Through “Grow Our Own” Program
Pinckneyville Community Hospital continues to invest in its workforce through its “Grow our Own” program, providing educational opportunities that help employees expand their skills while strengthening care for the community.
Through this initiative, the hospital pays for the full tuition/fee/book cost, upwards to $15,000, for team members who are committed to advancing their careers in healthcare and applying their knowledge right here at home.
One of the program’s participants is Brooke Westenberger, a Registered Nurse who has been a valued member of the hospital team since 2016. Brooke currently works at the hospital as an RN, where she plays an important role not only in patient care but also in training and mentoring new nurses, helping guide the next generation of caregivers.
Brooke is currently enrolled in the Accelerated RN-to-BSN program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she is working toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
A dedicated professional and mother of young children, Brooke balances the demands of family, work, and education with determination and commitment. Her decision to advance her education reflects her passion for providing high-quality, patient-centered care close to home.
Through her studies, she is strengthening her clinical expertise, leadership abilities, and knowledge of evidence-based practice—skills that are essential in today’s evolving healthcare environment.
Her goal is to continue growing as a bedside nurse while using her education to improve patient outcomes, support her colleagues, and contribute to the overall success of the hospital. Looking ahead, Brooke hopes to expand into leadership or specialized roles within nursing while continuing to serve the local community.
“Advancing my education allows me to better care for my patients and continue growing in my role,” said Westenberger. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to further my education while staying committed to the hospital and the community I serve.”
Hospital leadership emphasizes that supporting nurses like Brooke is essential to maintaining high standards of care.
“Our ‘Grow Our Own’ program highlights the talent we already have within our organization,” said Eva Hopp, Chief Nurse Executive. “By investing in employees like Brooke, we are ensuring that our patients continue to receive compassionate, high-quality care from skilled professionals who live and work in this community.”
Pinckneyville Community Hospital remains dedicated to empowering its employees through education and career advancement—helping build a stronger healthcare workforce for the future.
