Pinckneyville Community Hospital (PCH) is proud to award Abigail Hawes a $1,000 scholarship through the hospital’s Grow Our Own initiative, supporting her pursuit of a career in medical sonography.

Abigail joined the Pinckneyville Community Hospital team two years ago as a Hospital Registration Clerk and has continued to grow both personally and professionally during her time with the organization. She has now taken the next step toward her future by enrolling in the Medical Sonography Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, a four-year program with an anticipated graduation date of 2030/2031.

Abigail was drawn to sonography because of the opportunity to work directly with patients and provide comfort and support during what can often be an uncertain or stressful time. She sees sonography as a career that will allow her to combine her interest in healthcare with meaningful, one-on-one patient interaction.

In her scholarship application, Abigail shared that pursuing this degree will help her build a stable career and create a bright future for her children. Just as importantly, she hopes her career will provide an opportunity to give back to the community she loves.

The hospital’s new Grow Our Own initiative includes multiple programs designed to support employees as they pursue education, professional development and careers in healthcare. The $1,000 scholarship opportunity provides educational assistance to eligible employees and their immediate family members, helping recipients take the next step toward their educational and career goals.

“We are incredibly proud of Abigail and the initiative she is taking to build a future for herself, her children and her community,” said Randall Dauby, Chief Executive Officer of Pinckneyville Community Hospital. “Abigail represents exactly what we hoped the Grow Our Own initiative would accomplish — supporting our employees as they pursue their educational and career goals while investing in the future of healthcare in our community.”

Abigail has called the Pinckneyville community home for the past two years and is excited about the opportunity to continue building her future while giving back to the community she has come to love.

PCH is proud to support Abigail as she takes this important step toward her future and looks forward to celebrating her accomplishments along the way.
