The Respiratory Therapy Department at Pinckneyville Community Hospital provides treatment and care to individuals that suffer with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. This includes conditions such as Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, Asthma, Bronchiectasis, Bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Cough, Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Emphysema, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, Pleural Effusion, Pneumonia, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Pulmonary Hypertension, Reactive Airway Disease, Respiratory Failure, Restrictive Lung Disease, Sarcoidosis and Shortness of Breath. Working under the supervision of physicians, the Respiratory Therapy team performs modalities such as:
- Nebulizer treatments
- Chest physiotherapy
- Oxygen therapy
- Providing means for artificial breathing
The Respiratory Therapy team is also experienced in performing a variety of tests, producing results that act as tools for physicians. Tests include:
- Pulmonary Function Testing
- Stress Testing (chemical or cardio lite)
- Holter monitoring
- 30-day event monitoring
- Overnight oximetry
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation
The Respiratory Therapy Department, along with a registered nurse, administers the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation program at Pinckneyville Community Hospital. The program is designed for patients with cardiac and pulmonary conditions and strives to improve the quality of our patient's lives by helping them achieve and maintain their optimum level of health.
Our program’s focus is to increase the patient’s physical fitness and to alter their risk factor profiles by setting goal-oriented and educational goals with an emphasis on exercise. The program utilizes a wide variety of exercise equipment.
Cardiopulmonary Rehab is located on the hospital campus in the Wellness Center. CVP Rehab is open Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cardiac or Pulmonary orders are accepted from any local or out-of-area physician.
Cardiac Rehab Conditions
Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation is designed to meet the individual needs of each patient recovering from a variety of conditions, including:
- Coronary Angioplasty or Coronary Stent
- Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
- Current Stable Angina (Chest Pain)
- Heart Attack (in the last 12 months)
- Heart or Heart/Lung Transplant
- Heart Valve Repair or Replacement
- Stable Chronic Heart Failure
Pulmonary Rehab Conditions
- Asthma
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary Fibrosis
- Pulmonary Hypertension
